In late February 2024, the Department of Environmental Sustainability and Climatology (ESCS) organized a unique expedition for the "Ecosystem Services" course. The trip became a significant event as students visited the country's only reserve dedicated to restoring the goitered gazelle population and the micro-reserve Ak-Bulun, located on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.
The excursion provided a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the natural habitat of goitered gazelles and explore the wintering grounds of migratory birds inhabiting the lake's southern shore. Participants witnessed these incredible animals and birds in their natural environment for the first time, enriching their understanding and knowledge.
During the expedition, students gathered valuable information about the environmental challenges on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul and in the city of Balykchy. They learned about the challenges facing these unique ecosystems, emphasizing the relevance and importance of taking measures for their conservation and sustainable development. This expedition served as an educational experience and a step toward conscious interaction with the environment.

- Our recent ecosystem services classes focused on understanding the intricate ecosystems surrounding Issyk-Kul lake, a beautiful and ecologically diverse region in Kyrgyzstan. Fortunately, under the guidance of Professor Baktyiar Asanov, we were afforded a unique opportunity to venture to the lake's southern shore, immersing ourselves in hands-on learning and exploration.
During our excursion, one of the highlights was encountering the goitered gazelles, fascinating creatures that hold a special place in Kyrgyzstan's conservation efforts, being listed in the Red Book. It was remarkable to witness these rare animals thriving in their natural habitat along the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.
Observing the goitered gazelles revealed just how sensitive and cautious they are. What struck me most was their remarkable ability to adapt, consuming even highly saline water and enduring prolonged periods without access to fresh water sources.
The significance of our encounter was further underscored by considering the typical habitats of goitered gazelles. These resilient animals are usually found in arid or semi-arid regions characterized by scarce food resources, making their presence in the Ton region all the more intriguing.
Beyond the sheer fascination of observing these animals, our trip was an invaluable learning opportunity. Professor Asanov took the time to illuminate the ecological challenges facing the region, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of the environmental issues at play.
Overall, our excursion to the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul not only provided us with a firsthand glimpse into the wonders of nature but also underscored the importance of conservation efforts in safeguarding delicate ecosystems and the species that call them home.

The prospect of immersing myself in the unique landscapes and ecosystems of Issyk-Kul was exhilarating, and thanks to Professor Baktyiar Asanov's efforts, this goal became a reality.
Throughout the journey, Professor Baktyiar Asanov's guidance and care were evident at every turn. His thorough knowledge and passion for the region enriched our understanding and fueled our enthusiasm. His dedication to ensuring our safety and comfort did not go unnoticed, and I am genuinely grateful for his unwavering support throughout the trip.
Witnessing the breathtaking beauty of Issyk-Kul firsthand was a privilege I will forever cherish. Every moment spent in nature was filled with wonder and awe, from the majestic mountains to the serene lakeshores. Moreover, the camaraderie and community fostered during the trip were exceptional. The bonds formed with my classmates have left an indelible mark on me, and I am thankful for the opportunity to share this adventure with such wonderful companions.
In conclusion, I sincerely appreciate the ESCS Department and AUCA for providing me with this invaluable experience. The memories created during our time in Issyk-Kul will forever hold a special place in my heart. I look forward to learning, exploring, and discovering future opportunities.
